Baked Ziti

Here’s a straightforward whole-family pleaser. Meat-eaters won’t mind eating vegetarian tonight! Marinara/cheesy aromas make your kitchen smell like dinnertime. Baked ziti is on my normal menu rotation, using pantry staples that last till the end of a pay-period (when I haven’t been grocery shopping in awhile). J

Time-saver note: This meal can be prepared in advance and refrigerated or frozen. Thaw and bake before serving.

Ingredients:
1 lb. ziti pasta
1 recipe spaghetti sauce
(or 48 oz. store-bought spaghetti sauce)
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
3 Tbsp. grated parmesan cheese

Directions:

1. Boil ziti noodles according to package directions until al dente (almost soft, but not mushy).

2. Prepare spaghetti sauce (or use store-bought sauce).

3. Preheat oven to 350 °F.

4. Spray 9x13” pan with cooking spray.

5. Now make layers in pan:

            Bottom Layer:
¼ total sauce (about 1 ½ cups)

            Middle (8 Layers):
1/3 total noodles (about 3 cups)
            1 cup mozzarella
            1 Tbsp. parmesan
             ¼ total sauce (about 1 ½ cups)

1/3 total noodles (about 3 cups)
            1 cup mozzarella
            1 Tbsp. parmesan
 ¼ total sauce (about 1 ½ cups)

Final 4 Layers (different order this time):
1/3 total noodles (about 3 cups)
¼ total sauce (about 1 ½ cups)
            1 cup mozzarella
           1 Tbsp. parmesan

Cover this baby with foil and bake!
6. Loosely cover with foil and bake 20 minutes.

7. Remove foil and bake 10 minutes.
